1991 Jetta GLI 16V
I purchased the GLI with 76K miles from the Bavarian Motorsport, a small dealership on the Lynnway in 1998. I remember the business card which had "making friends, losing money" printed on it. The black paint, red 16V badges, Recaro seats and BBS RA wheels had me drooling. I was seeking a 90-92 GTI or GLI to replace my black 1983 Rabbit GTI as a daily driver to and from Cambridge.
The Jetta soon inherited a Techtonics Tuning Stainless Steel cat-back 2.5" Exhaust with Borla Muffler. Under the hood, a 16V Euro Intake cam and GIAC Eprom was installed. A Neuspeed short shift kit tightened up the shifting and Neuspeed upper strut bar firmed the upper strut mounts. Externally I installed a European Hella branded quad light, grill and core support to benefit with the H4 lighting. Finally, an H&R Cup Kit replaced the stock suspension. I put just over 100K miles on the car in the next decade.
The Jetta made way to friend, Patrick T., and he followed with a VR6 swap which sounded so good matched up with the Techtonics Exhaust.
